Alex, Just an adjacent issue, please note that the text in AudioMoth Flash App File/Show Manual Switch Instructions states "Set the switch on the side of your AudioMoth device to DEFAULT, remove the device's batteries and SD card..." while the figure shows the SD inside and the switch in CUSTOM. Also, from the figure, I cannot understand what a "flashable state" is, just lights not flashing? Anyway, going back to my problem. This is a 1.0.0 version that has worked fine many times, as well as the usb cable, which is the one that came with the device. The problem arose during a configuration, in which I selected an old config file. Perhaps as a consequence of paperclip operations, the situation is a bit different now: Batteries and SD removed, switch USB/OFF, connect to PC • green light on (not flashing) • switch to DEFAULT: lights flashing (~1Hz) • switch to CUSTOM: red light on (not flashing). Green light flashing (~.5 Hz) • switch back to USB/OFF: lights fast flashing for 1-2', then green light (continuous) Disconnect from PC Switch to USB/OFF Start AudioMoth flash app Connect AudioMoth: green light on, No AudioMoth found switch to DEFAULT: both lights flashing disconnect from PC: no lights on reconnect to PC: no lights on disconnect from PC paperclip connect to PC:: both lights flashing AudioMoth flash app: No AudioMoth found. Using flash app v. 1.10.0 on a linux machine. (never had problems before but I am going to check on a windows machine)

I suspect I might need to change all vents and not just the broken ones as these vents are GAW112 instead of GAW334.

GAW334 vents are not currently available through groupgets (price was 4 units for 9.95 eur) and are available through LabMaker but the price is 15 units at 99 US$. Is there any other way to get them? 15 are way too may in my case. Also, according to this information: https://www.gore.com/sites/default/files/2017-10/GORE-Acoustic-Vents-Immersion-Application.pdf it would seem that there are newer, better versions, is this correct?

OK, then I take as lesson learned that we have to check batteries with a tester prior configuration and not rely on the "BAT 4.6V" reported by the config app, in particular for lithium batteries. Thanks a lot.

But my concern is: considering the configuration app was reporting "BAT 4.6V" (which I understand is acceptable), how could I have detected that the batteries were actually not good before the deployment?

Where you say: If these are alkaline batteries then 3.8 / 3 =. 1.26V per cell is quite low. Under additional load when writing to the SD card and at lower temperatures, the internal voltage drop will likely push it below the threshold. How much should it be? I often see BAT > 4.9V Is 4.9 the threshold you refer to?

While my ubuntu-based linux reports Audio info for the correct wav files, eg: The entire Audio tab is missing for the 0 bytes files and Audiomoth and Raven do not recognize these files as audio files. What do you mean by 11x5 mm ? The vents are circular.

Thanks a lot for your clear explanation. Hope you can make the config app start with the configuration kept in the unit in forthcoming versions. It is probably much more difficult than it could seem at the eyes of an ignorant. Thanks a lot for all the great work you do.

The saved config can be saved manually in the app ‘File’ menu and then loaded onto the app I know, thanks, but this is not the point. however, it can’t read the configurations off of a device. I think this is very confusing. If the unit has a file with the saved configuration, the app should start with it. Perhaps you could add this to your list of improvements. Anyway, the most important point for which I need confirmation: does the saved file in the SD guarantee that the specified configuration would be used after, i.e., replacing batteries and deleting the rest of files? Or do we need to run the configuration app every time we switch from CUSTOM to USB/OFF ?

In that case, if I 1. Quit the app. 2. Disconnect from USB. 3. switch to CUSTOM, back to USB/OFF 4. Connect to usb 5. start the config app would the saved conf be displayed by the app? (cannot check myself now, I have all units deployed)

Thanks. I doubt I tested in DEFAULT mode at all, although the files could be leftovers as I did not reformat again before deployment. But my main concern is: can we assume this is a SD problem? Can we discard another issue with the unit itself? I understand we have to test, but I would appreciate knowing your opinion as the test takes few days. If you think this is probably a SD problem, we can change and deploy again, going to check the SD card after few days (I understand we can just check the SD while the unit is not recording and then put it back again without need of reprogramming the unit).
