Hi all, We are aiming to deploy Audiomoths (1.2.0) with a preconfigured recording schedule that centers around sunrise and sunset times. We therefore need to ensure clocks on the recorders are set accurately, especially with respect to timezones (configuration happens in the same timezone) and also to avoid clock drift as much as possible. We were therefore planning to use the Auiomoth Chime app in the field after configuring the recorders beforehand as well to local time and to always require the accoustic chime. But now we are thinking to use the Arbimon Companion App for deployment for its additional functionality. My question is, does the Arbimon App replace the work of the Chime app completely, so this step wont be necessary in the field? And does the Arbimon App just reset the clock to local time on the phone with the App? And secondly, should we keep or remove the setting "Always require accoustic chime" in our configuration then?
Many thanks!
Hi Imogen, Both the AudioMoth Chime App and the Arbimon App will set the time in the same way. They will leave the AudioMoth on whatever timezone it was previously configured with, but will update the UTC time. This means that the time zone of the phone doesn't matter. It is the UTC time that is being set on the AudioMoth and the AudioMoth will use whatever timezone was set when configured. The Arbimon App also has some added functionality to provide a 'Deployment ID'. The app generates this deployment ID from the Arbimon server and communicates it to the AudioMoth. The AudioMoth then adds this deployment ID to the header information in all the WAV files it generates. This allows the Arbimon platform to automatically associate recordings with deployment details that are logged through the app. When using both apps, it is useful to enable the 'Always require acoustic chime' option when configuring, as this means that the AudioMoth will always wait for the acoustic chime when switched to CUSTOM, even if it has already had the time set. This ensures that an up-to-date deployment ID is always set (you can't accidently deploy with an old deployment ID) and that the time is updated. If you don't need the deployment ID then the AudioMoth Chime app has exactly the same time setting functionality. Alex
