Connecting a hydrophone to HydroMoth?

GeoSpectrum designs and manufactures various wide-band omnidirectional hydrophones, including an integral low-power, low-noise, voltage or current-signaling preamplifier. GeoSpectrum’s hydrophones can be configured to operate over customer-defined bandwidths, require sensitivity, and allow for customizable gain. The depth rating for each hydrophone can be tailored to meet export requirements and range from shallow- to deep-water applications.

The Aquarian H2D has been specifically designed to work with audio inputs that accept electret condenser microphones. That's why you can use it straight out of the box. Other hydrophones will typically require some conversion depending on their design. We are currently focusing on how to connect bare piezo transducers and will have an application note on this shortly.

These hydrophones use an internal preamp which will require a separate 6.8V power supply. The preamps comes in three variants - voltage, current and differential voltage - and each would need a custom designed circuit in order to connect it to AudioMoth.
