Hi Mike, We are working on this at the moment and are designing a pre-amp board that will allow the connection of bare hydrophones and piezo contact microphones. We're focusing mainly on fresh water applications at the moment. We should have some results in a month or so. AudioMoth is designed to accept electret capsule microphones and hydrophones such as the Aquarian Audio H2 which include a pre-amp in the hydrophone body. Alex
The Aquarian H2D has been specifically designed to work with audio inputs that accept electret condenser microphones. That's why you can use it straight out of the box. Other hydrophones will typically require some conversion depending on their design. We are currently focusing on how to connect bare piezo transducers and will have an application note on this shortly.
These hydrophones use an internal preamp which will require a separate 6.8V power supply. The preamps comes in three variants - voltage, current and differential voltage - and each would need a custom designed circuit in order to connect it to AudioMoth.
