Hello
I would like to record birds and bats with different settings: for birds: 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Sample rate = 48 kHz, Gain = Med, Sleep Duration (s) = 1500 and Recording Duration (s) = 300. For bats: 6:15 pm to 7:15 am, Sample Rate = 256 kHz, Gain = Med, Sleep Duration (s) = 45 and Recording Duration (s) = 15; UTC +3. It would be possible?
I can't make it.
That would be great for testing a framework.
schedule would be
For birds: 5:00 am to 09:00 pm, Sample rate = 48 kHz, Gain = Med, Sleep Duration (s) = 540 and Recording Duration (s) = 60.
For bats: 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, Sample Rate = 256 kHz, Gain = Med, Sleep Duration (s) = 270 and Recording Duration (s) = 30. UTC+1
The Cofig App may not be used anymore with te new firmware but a CONFIG file will be created I'm assuming. If so, can we adapt the new custom CONFIG file? for example, tuning the recording and sleeping duration.
If you can tell me the schedule that you need I can generate a custom firmware. This firmware will no longer be configurable in the Config App - you use the smartphone app or the Time App to set the time before deploying.
Thank you @Alex Rogers. As an alternative, could the firmware bin files provided above be used instead? Are there any updated version of those bin files and the corresponding CONFIG files?
All the best
Hi,
@Alex Rogers, I'm trying to customize a CONFIG file provided by LIFEPLAN project (https://www2.helsinki.fi/en/projects/lifeplan/instructions) in order to control the recordingPeriods parameter and obtain birds records all day long and bat records during the night only.
My questions: Does it support different recordingPeriods settings for standardSettings and opportunisticSettings ? If so, how this could be adjusted?
Lifeplan original file (config_corner.txt) attached.
I'm trying to use it with Audiomoth 1.1.0
All the best,
Paulo
I have gcc installed on my mac, and have compiled the stock firmware, and have found AudioMoth-Firmware-Basic, and am now about to try my hand at C programming -- very rusty! This functionality is so important for the AudioMoth to realize its potential, I thought I would post before perhaps bugging for help, and in case there are technical concerns -- and to express surprise that nobody has published on GitHub a mod of AudioMothFirmware-Basic with this functionality. Not that I've found anyway. Wouldn't that be a good thing? Wink, nudge.
No problem. Glad it worked.
Ah, you don't have the binary file saved, you have the webpage from DropBox saved. There should be an option i the top right of the file to download the file. Or use the original file that you had.
Can you show a screenshot? How big is the binary file? It should be 45KB which should work fine.
Oh dear, I honestly don't know how that happened. I had problems before because something didn't run on this user account so some was saved in the same folder but under the admin account. So sorry about that. BUT unfortunately I still get an error message, only now it is saying "Error: the file is too big"
Are you sure the file is in the correct location? The screen shot of the file system doesn't seem to match the directory of the file where you are running flash from. If you type >DIR in the terminal window, can you see both the flash application and the binary file?
Are you sure the filename that you are entering matches exactly? I can't think of any other reason why it can't read it.
I think there must be something wrong with the file. Can you open it with a normal file viewer? Try downloading again from here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/ku8gjdrw0ecwdjr/AudiomothBirdsAndBats.1.0.1.bin?dl=0
Strange. That should work fine. Does it work for the AudioMoth1.2.1.bin file?
Hi Alex, thanks for your quick response. Yes, as far as I can see it's all correct?
Hi, Make sure that the firmware .bin file and the flash application are in the same folder and that the name of the file that you enter in the terminal matches that of the actual file. Can you send a screenshot? Alex
Hi Alex, I have downloaded the firmware above, however, when trying to flash it, I get an Error: Could not open file. I don't have a problem installing any other firmware versions. I would also like to record bats and birds in different sessions with one device. The trigger option for bat surveys is not available yet?
If anyone else wants a version with different settings, let us know here.
Hi Cintia, The firmware for this can be downloaded from:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ku8gjdrw0ecwdjr/AudiomothBirdsAndBats.1.0.1.bin?dl=0
You use the Time App to set the time. Switch to CUSTOM to start the program running. Switching to DEFAULT will make instantaneous recordings using the settings of the first recording period (which in this case are the 256KHz sample rate settings).
It's very quick to make a new version if you need to change the configuration settings. We're working on an easy way to do this from a website - AudioMoth Labs - but it's a manual process of editing the source code and recompiling at the moment. That said, this only takes about 60 seconds.
Alex
Hi Cintia, We have a custom version of firmware that will supports this configuration. We'll eventually be posting this on AudioMoth Labs but if you email me directly (alex.rogers@cs.ox.ac.uk) I can send you a link. Alex
