Good morning.
Yesterday I successfully downloaded the new Configuration and Flash Apps and flashed and updated 3 Audiomoths, then reconfigured them successfully. (That said I had a minor issue at first since it needed to configure the USB port - which it did automatically and successfully on connecting the device - but when trying to flash the Audiomoth, the firmware Versión 1.6.0 was then highlighted in grey and it wouldn't work until I actively clicked on the 1.6.0 version to turn it blue, after which it worked perfectly; this is easily overlooked).
However, I have just tried expanding a night's files which were recorded using a threshold filter and have the "T" indicator added using the latest Configuration app. The threshold was clearly too low and there are only very minor differences in the overall file length, but they are there. These were recorded before this firmware update in case it's relevant (though I presume not).
There appears to be a minor change in the configuration app appearance reflecting where the resulting expanded files should go, though I just want to save them back on to the microSD card before analysing and actively selected this option the second time I tried, after not having selected anything the first time.
Attached are two screengrabs: 1. of where I get to in the expansion process (apparently it's underway but nothing happens for 30 mins or more) and 2. of some of the original files to show minor differences in size resulting (presumably) from tiny pauses in the recordings. I can just open these directly and ignore the presumably very minor differences in timing resulting from the non-visible gaps, but as I've upped the threshold for use from now on, I'd like to be able to get it to work, obviously.
Any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help,
John
The progress bar also got an update so you can see the progress within each individual file which makes the wait less painful.
Great. We'll roll this out in the next Config App update in a week or so.
Hi Alex & all.
This works really well. In just over 35 minutes in WIN10, I've just expanded 49 files of triggered recordings in audio files up to almost 20 min in length and which at max size weigh in at almost 1GB each.
Yesterday, I tried expanding some other files and ran out of destination disk space, but it expanded the rest successfully until reaching the limit and then gave me a message saying there was an error for the last 6 files (so warning me of the limit).
Hope it works as successfully in other OSs.
Cheers, J
@john @behrens.marie-luise If you can send an email with your operating system to peter@openacousticdevices.info we can send you a pre-release version of the configuration app with the fix to confirm that it works properly on your machines.
We think this is a memory issue in the app when processing large files. The file size shouldn't be an issue but something isn't working as intended. We'll investigate and release an update to fix this.
Hi, Can you share the file that you are having problems with so we can try it out. Several people are having problems with this but we haven't been able to reproduce any of them yet. Alex
Hello, we have the same Problem. It is impossible tu use this function in every variation we have testet. I also cannot split anything... It is just stopping at the same processing step like discovered by you bevor.
Hi Alex.
Well, I can't seem to find a way to get it to work.
FYI, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Config App, updated WIN10 and it still does the same, whether expanded on/to the microSD or when copied on the desktop, or even for new files from last night. I had brought the file length down anyway in order for it not to exceeed the 1 GB limit for uploading to Arbimon.
I'll have to reduce the file length down to 20min and see what happens.
I prefer to try and record everything, from birds and amphibians to orthoptera to bats, so really need all frequencies (up to 250k sampling rate in the vague hope I might get a smaller Rhinolophus sp one day). Even if 'just' batting, the local Tadarida drop down to 9 kHz on occasions so the high-pass filter would have to be set pretty low anyway!
I'll try to do some bat only tests tonight on one AM to see what happens.
Regards,
John
The threshold of 1024 works quite well when a high pass filter is used as this will remove all the background noise and just leave the bats. The red LED will only light when it is actually recording to SD card so you can check if it is recording continually. We typically use 1024 with a 40kHz high-pass filter and then if you run your hands together to generate ultrasonics you’ll see the AudioMoth detect and record this sound.
Can you open the file okay in a normal audio application? I’ll try these settings and see if I can reproduce it. I wonder if it’s because the input file is quite big.
Hi Alex
To answer in a different order:
No, still not working. Just tried one file to the hard disk and it reaches the same stage but no temporary file visible in the destination folder (unlike on the microSD card those times it did work previously).
Yes, enough space. I only tried expanding half of the files to ensure that there was enough space (19GB needed and 26.9GB available). I've done this before, deleting the T files before embarking on the next set.

Just tried again, without success, and it goes first to "Starting to expand files" then to the second screen of "Expanding files..." [FILENAME underneath]. It also doesn't work with the Event based tab option either, which I've just tried, just in case...
Odd!
Thanks, J
Hi John, Can you share the CONFIG.TXT file that was on the SD card so we can see the settings that you used. Does the expansion work correctly when you write the files to a different destination? Is there enough room on the SD card for both the original files and the expanded files? Alex
