Silly question about the AudioMoth
The AudioMoth runs off batteries and records to an SD card. What we’d like is to have it powered by USB and recording onto an M2 drive.
There is mention of an audioMoth USB Microphone, but I cant figure out if it is an modification of the audiomoth or a specific product that isn’t available anywhere. Could you advise?
Cheers
Philip
Hi Philip,
The AudioMoth USB Microphone firmware will turn any AudioMoth hardware into a USB microphone which can then be connected to a laptop or single-board computer such as a Raspberry Pi. Since the SD card, batteries, and some other components are not required when used in this way, we also have an AudioMoth USB Microphone PCB, with a case, that if specifically for this use. It's a bit smaller, has a permanently fitted 3.5mm jack so you can plug in external microphones, and some hydrophones, and can either be used in it's case, or built into other devices by just using the PCB.
The application note below describes the firmware and hardware:
https://github.com/OpenAcousticDevices/Application-Notes/blob/master/Using_the_AudioMoth_USB_Microphone_Firmware_and_Hardware/Using_the_AudioMoth_USB_Microphone_Firmware_and_Hardware.pdf The hardware is sold in group orders on GroupGets at regular intervals, or contact sales@openacousticdevices.info for specific orders.
