Hi there,

I'm interested by this device especially for LONG time recordings.

I read about triggering recording, battery life etc.

Would it be possible to record permanently during one or two week ?

My question is related to the battery life + capacity of recording permanently (multiple files chopped etc)

2 weeks WAV 48kHz 16bit = 117 Gb

Is it possible to use card > 64Gb ?

Can you please tell me what I do with this device once I am finished with my recordings?

Am I able to listen to the sounds or do I ship this device to a lab for research?

The AudioMoth uses removable SD cards. Most users will deploy the device, and then copy the contents of the SD card to a laptop or desktop computer for analysis. For the Eclipse Soundscape project you should contact the organisers here - https://eclipsesoundscapes.org. I think they many be supplying free AudioMoth kits to users. We aren't directly involved with that project so don't know the details.

If you record continuously making one-hour recordings, the AudioMoth will generate 24 files per day, totalling 8.3GB and using 290mAh. You can use any size SD card (https://www.openacousticdevices.info/sd-card-guide) but the main limit will be the batteries. Good quality alkaline batteries will have a capacity of about 2800mAh and Energizer Ultimate batteries about 3600mAh (https://www.openacousticdevices.info/batteries). With the larger value, this would be about 12 days of recording.

You can use the Config App without a device to check the energy and storage requirements of any recording profile. Slower sample rates will use less energy. In addition, sample rates of 48kHz and below can use the 'Enable energy saver' mode to reduce consumption further with some small loss in recording quality.

The AudioMoth only has a 12-bit ADC which we oversample to 16-bit so we can’t get true 32-bit samples.

Can you confirm I can record 7 days in a row without any interruption ? (multiple files are totally ok)

If that's not possible, what is the interruption time we have to use between LONG recording durations ?

WAV files are limited to 4.3GB which is just over 12 hours. We’d normally use the cyclic record/sleep options with a record duration of 11 hours 59 minutes and 55 seconds, and a sleep duration of 5 seconds. You’ll then get continuous recordings with 5 second gaps every 12 hours, and the each will start at either noon and midnight.
