Huge file size

We have just started using the Audiomoth. First trial run was for 3 nights. There were 17 files ranging in size from 3.7G to 4.2G. Each file is about 2.5 hrs of recording. Can anyone tell me what a normal file size should be? What setting is probably wrong in our case? Thank you

Hi Dannialle, Can you share the CONFIG.TXT file from the SD card. It sounds like you may have switched to DEFAULT, rather than CUSTOM, so that the AudioMoth made continuous recordings, stopping and restarting the file at the 4.3GB maximum WAV file size. Alex

Hi, On the first tab of the Config App, the 'Enable sleep/record cyclic recording' option has been un-checked. This means that the AudioMoth will make one long continuous recording which probably isn't what you want. Enable this opion, and then use 00:05 second sleep and 04:55 second record to generate recordings are 5 minutes long.

The recording times look a bit strange for the time zone. Are these correct?

The high-pass filter here is fine. An amplitude threshold has been selected for the triggered recordings, but the actual threshold is at 0.001% of the full scale. This will mean that it will trigger on background sound, resulting in the large files you saw. Set this to 3% so that it only triggers on the loud bat sounds. It's often easier to start of by not using triggered recordings - just record everything. Then you can use those recordings within the Audiomoth Play (https://play.openacousticdevices.info) tool to try out different trigger settings.

Energy saver mode only operates at sample rates of 48kHz and less, so this option won't actually do anything.
