Hydromoth with GPS sync

Hi,

Is there a possibility to provide a GPS PPS or telegrams to the hydromoth? I am planning to deploy these in tandem with a surface buoy, and I could provide a PPS or generate GNSS telegrams/ublox telegrams and pass those to the hydromoth for better timing.

Hi,

In this setting you should probably use a regular AudioMoth 1.2 or AudioMoth Dev board with an external hydrophone and a GPS board. Aquarian H2 and A5 hydrophones can be used directly with AudioMoth.

HydroMoth has no accessible GPIO pins and you’d need to manufacture a custom housing.

Ok. Yes, sounds like I need that. I would preferably just relay or synthesize a GPS signal from the surface buoy to avoid the extra current draw from a GPS. Does the audiomoth just take PPS signal + GNSS telegrams? Or if a firmware modification is needed anyway, I could just provide a timestamp.

Looks like the H2 is replaced by H2D, will that one also work (i.e. the AudioMoth supplies PIP)? I'm looking to record ambient and anthropogenic noise in the ocean. Waves, ships, chirps and other signals from transducers. The H2D looks to work from 10 Hz and far up. Any tips on whether the A5 or H2D is a better choice?
