I am trying without success to start using for the first time the AudioMoth 1.1.0 that I purchased about a year ago. I am unable to get either the Config app or the Flash app to recognize the AM. I am POSITIVE that the USB cable is a data cable--not just a charging cable. I'm using an old MacBookAir running OS 10.14.6. I am long-time Arduino/Raspberry Pi user/maker/programmer some I'm not a total idiot, but I must be doing something dumb. I do the bit with the paper clip in Custom mode, and all the LEDs respond as expected, but I still get "No AudioMoth found." Suggestions, please?

Thanks for the question and responses. I was that "total idiot" and used the black cable instead of the green data cable. Once I made the swap. everything worked. Thanks everyone.
That's great. Glad it wasn't our problem this time!
Alex, thanks but even before I tried your command line query I tried a different cable and TADAAA!!! It worked. I am very embarrassed, but very grateful and very happy!
Thanks!
John
In the command line you should be able to see a connected AudioMoth: > system_profiler SPUSBDataType
We use USB Prober which is distributed by Apple as part of the Xcode tools. Either approach will show if the Mac is actually recognising the AudioMoth as a USB device.
Alex,
Many thanks for the speed-of-light response! Yes, I should have mentioned that yes, it is generating recordings in DEFAULT mode; I simply have no control of the parameters. I will re-double check the cable problem. Thanks.
John
Hi John, If you put batteries and an SD card in the AudioMoth and switch to DEFAULT does it make a recording? If so, the firmware is probably fine. Then see if the Config App can see the AudioMoth when it is in USB/OFF mode. On a Mac nearly all communication problems end up being the USB cable so I would definitely double check that. Alex
