no lights and no recognized

Hi everyone

I just received my first audiomoth 1.2.0 but it doesn't work..the lights don't turn on either with batteries or with the USB cable (tested).

I tried to follow the "show manual switch instructions" procedure with a paper clip: the device is recognized and updates (no light appears) but immediately afterwards the program returns to saying "no audiomoth find" and no light appears.

Any suggestions?

I use windows 10 pro, this Audiomoth came from Labmaker.

no light in any configuration:

- default mode with batteries and SD card inserted

- default mode with batteries without SD card inserted

- default mode without batteries and without SD card, with USB cable (device not recognized)

When you reflashed the firmware did it all seem to work fine, apart from not reconnecting at the end? Double-check that there are no files on the SD card in case it is the LED that are the problem. Otherwise, it seems that this AudioMoth has a hardware problem. Contact LabMaker and ask them to send a replacement as it seems to be dead on arrival. This is quite a strange issue as if it can connect and reflash the firmware the processor and USB interface is running fine and it would be strange for it not to work in normal mode. Alex

hello Aex, thanks for the interest, unfortunately I confirm, after the firmware reflash the app displays again "no device recognized".... I try to write to Labmaker, if I find a solution other than replacement I update this thread.

I think this is definately a faulty AudioMoth. An unusual problem though. Possibly some issue with the internal flash on the microcontroller which is preventing the applied firmware from running but still allows the original factory installed bootloader to run. It would be worth trying to install the 'AudioMoth USB Microphone' firmware to see if it will run that.

Hi Alessandra, Can you confirm where this AudioMoth came from and what operating system you use on your computer? The AudioMoth uses two USB protocols - a serial USB protocol when put into flash mode with the paperclip, and a USB HID protocol when communicating normally with the app. The fact that you can reflash the firmware means most of the device is working okay. However, it's strange that it isn't connecting normally and shows no LED. Can you check what happens when you switch the AudioMoth to DEFAULT without an SD card installed? Both LED should flash together. Also, can you do the same with an SD card installed and check whether the AudioMoth writes any files to the SD card? Alex
