Red and green flashing lights despite proper configuration

Hi, I have a number of Audiomoths, and one of my most recently purchased devices (a 1.2.0) is not working. When I initially programmed it for deployment, it seemed to flash just fine (and is detected as having firmware 1.10.1 on it still). It appears to set the time and configure, but the first time I did this, I got a warning saying that the clock was working too fast. Despite appearing to program, the device did not record. I have since tried new batteries, different SD cards, different cables (always ones that came with the devices) and have tried reflashing, timing, and configuring. During those actions, everything seems okay, but when I eject the Audiomoth and switch it to custom, I get both red and green lights flashing (slower on the first flash, then shorter duration flashes interspersed with a longer no flash interval. This also happens when I switch to default. I have programmed my Audiomoths hundreds of times with success and am familiar with common ways that can cause a problem. I have tried everything I know. Any suggestions?

Hi, The warning abot the clock is a bug that triggers incorrectly sometimes. This will be fixed in the next version of the Config App so you can ignore that. The red and green LED flashing in DEFAULT means that an SD card write error has occured. What make and model of SD cards are you using, and what sample rate are you recording at? Alex

Hi Alex,

I am using SanDisk Extreme 64 GB micro sd cards. Image attached. I am using a sampling rate of 48 kHz. I actually tried switching out the card again for another one of these and it programmed fine. When I put the original problem card in, it also worked fine, but when I tried to program the moth with the original card: red and green light. So something is wrong with this card. Do you have recommendations for best practices with the SD cards? We encountered a number of issues programming moths time after time. Most of the time, those issues seemed to get solved by reformatting the cards. Anything else? Anyway, it appears that my problem is solved, though I am still a bit curious about this card which seems to record fine as long as the moth was programmed without it in the slot (not a problem with other cards of the same type). Glad it seems to be workign now. You should reformat the cards each time before use, rather than deleting files from them, as some operating systems just hide the deleted files and do not clear the file allocation table. It won't make any difference whether the SD card is present when you configure the AudioMoth. It isn't used in the configuration process and is powered down all the time. Before deployment, we normally switch to DEFAULT and check that the red LED flashes to indicate that a recording is being made. If there are problems writing to the SD card, you will get a red and green flashing LED at that point. Sometimes very low batteries can also result in SD card write errors.
