Hi Alex back on Oct 16, 2018 you said:
"On AudioMoth 2 we're going to use two AA batteries and a 3.3V voltage booster IC to increase the battery voltage up to 3.3V. This is a bit less efficient than a voltage regulator but you win that loss back by being able to drain the batteries completely and access their full capacity. It also makes the device a bit smaller and cheaper to deploy. The newer processor also uses significantly less power."
Is this still been planned? Is so, are there any thoughts on the timeline for this new design? Will AM2 be with us for the start of the survey season next year, Spring 2020? Or perhaps should we plan on the 2021 season?
PS - Loving the Round 7 devices that turned up this week! Keep up the good work!
Many thanks Alex, "adding capabilities though new firmware revisions" (triggering??) sounds a great plan!
AM2 is probably going to be pushed to the end of next year as we want to roll out another upgrade to the current hardware to support external microphones while still keeping the same form factor for the new injection moulded case. Keeping compatibility with all the AudioMoth in the field and adding capabilities though new firmware revisions seem more useful than a whole new revision at this point.
