Hi!
I'm prepairing my own enclosure for AudioMoth. I've used a light waterproof IP box. I put a little porexpan inside to fix the Audiomoth in a specific and adecuate position not moving. Then, I put the lid with a tiny hole where the microphone is situated. I'm here for asking for any ideas to cover that because I couldn't find an acoustic waterproof cloth. It's for personal use to study the environment of my house (I live in the field) and in the city, in my relatives houses , so I'm going to install and retire it always the the next morning (not more than one day out). So, any recommendations? As a subsitute for the «authentic acoustic waterproof cloth»... I suppose something thin could work well, like paper film or somethig, but I don't know how the audio quality could be.
Thank u for your time.
Fine SS mesh has been used very successfully. Details of my cases here: https://www.openacousticdevices.info/support/enclosures/smaller-case-for-am-v1-1-85x58x33mm "As was used in the recent British Bat Survey 2019 SW pilot (BBS19) I have used two layers of metal mesh treated with NicWax over the Mic- https://www.inoxia.co.uk/products/mesh/sheets/500-mesh "
Since writing that I have done extensive testing, and so long as the vent is mostly horizontal (at least 60 degrees to vertical) and using Gorilla tape (not glue or hot melt), the cases stay mostly dry with single layer of 500 or 400 gauge mesh when out for weeks. If you order a free sample from Inoxia (£1 p&p) you will have enough for 3 or 4 cases. https://www.inoxia.co.uk/products/mesh/sheets/400-mesh
The next experiments will be with a 80 gauge ss mesh rain flap above the vent angled to prevent ingress of hi engery raindrops even more
