Hi,
I am looking to buy some waterproof membranes to make a housing for my AudioMoth devices.
I have enquired with https://voir.en.alibaba.com/product/60380452525-801219240/e_PTFE_acoustic_membrane_for_speaker_and_mic_IP67_waterproof_sticker.html as suggested by another forum post. It is possible to purchase a small number but the shipping is $25 as I think they are shipped from China (I am in the UK).
I have also come across http://www.porellemembranes.co.uk/en/products/porelle-industrial-and-scientific/porelle-acoustic-vents/#contact . They are UK-based so I would avoid the large shipping cost, and they claim that their membranes are better than e-PTFE membranes (like the Voir product) as there is less dB loss.
Has anyone used the second product or have any opinion on which would be better?
Thanks!
Careful with the transmission loss of some products of less-established manufacturers found on Alibaba, tested here in Figure 3. Gore still produces the best dedicated products to my limited knowledge. Did anyone end up finding acoustic vents at Porelle membranes?
I need just one acoustic membrane sticker for my single Audiomoth box. Would anyone have one they'd be willing to sell me for a tidy but limited unit profit?
Thanks,
Sylfest
P.S. Failing that, is waterproof audio membrane used in any cheap audio devices one might cannibalize?
Hi,
Yes I ended up buying the first option as it had been used before. I had a few issues with the membranes breaking in the field but I wonder if this was because they were deployed in the rainy and humid tropics.
If you are buying some and you are in the UK then I'd be interested in sharing the shipping costs as I need to purchase some more?
Thanks,
Catherine
