Just tried to reconfigure my 2 newly-acquired Audiomoths (which seemed to work perfectly last week) and was informed that I needed to flash them to version 1.4.2, followed the instructions implicitly (with "Show Manual Switch Instructions" and the paper-clip which seemed to work) but whatever I try I cannot get the flash GUI to work. Have tried different USB-cables but all to no effect. Am using Linuxmint20 with the latest Configuration, Time and Flash App Images on my desktop PC....any help appreciated.
.
Make sure you use version 1.1.0 of the Flash App. It writes a log file which you can access from a menu option and is really useful for debugging if you have any further problems.
Great. The other AudioMoth will be recoverable. The LED don't flash as the main firmware is probably corrupted. However, the bootloader will be intact. The trick is to power up the device directly into flash mode:
1) Start Flash App and open 'Show Manual Switch Instructions' under the menu option. Click the 'LED not flashing' button.
2) Remove batteries.
3) Hold paper clip on the flash contacts.
4) Plug in the USB cable.
The trick is to make sure that the contacts are connected together with the paperclip at the moment that the power is applied. The Flash App will tell you if it can see the device. If it doesn't work unplug the USB and try again until it does. It's a bit fiddly but will work in the end.
You can test the procedure with a working AudioMoth and simply unplug it when it starts up in flash mode. There is another thread with a description of the process here - https://www.openacousticdevices.info/support/flashing-support/my-devices-don-t-turn-on-after-flashing-1-4-1. We normally updates through twitter and announce big updates on the forum here and through the mailing list - subscribe here - https://www.openacousticdevices.info. The change from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3 is very minor - just a small delay added when you switch from DEFAULT to USB/OFF to stop some switches bouncing.
Great news Alex, noticed that you've recently 'updated' the 'Flash' software from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3 and I re-attempted it, Bingo! Both work perfectly!😍😍
Now how do I get my 2 'older' ones to work? (v1.0.0 and v1.1.0) Sadly I think they are probably 'bricked' now, I can't even get LED's to work on them....is there any where to return them for 're-cycling'?
Is there anyway or informing users of 'software-updates'...email perhaps?
Cheers, Tom
Hi Tom,
Can you confirm where these AudioMoth came from as they should have had the new firmware installed. When you launched the Flash App what version of firmware did it say was installed? You can use the older 1.3.x firmware with the new configuration app but many of the new features such as filters won't work. Have you seen the additional permissions you need to set for Linux - https://www.openacousticdevices.info/applications. There are permissions for both USB and serial interfaces. Alex
