Green and Red light flashing

Hi, ES recipient. Began to set the clock on the device a week before as directed and when I intitially turned it on the light it kept flashing both red and green at the same time. I tried to set the clock with the app chime anyways and nothing happened.

Ok, I'm confused again. I thought I was supposed to send the SD card back with notes but keep the Moth device for the '24 eclipse. I even received a second SD card with my kit. Please clarify.

UPDATE: Flashed the audio moth with the 1.8.1 firmware and I am still experiencing the same issue. I am unsure how I should proceed now.

I followed instructions to set the time. With batteries in, switch on "Custom", both Red and Green lights are blinking in Sync. The instructions say the Green light should be flashing and the Red should be steady. So, what's up with that?

Hi, That sound like a good plan. When you return your data, could you mail the MicroSD AND the AudioMoth back to us after the eclipse in the padded envelope. Please also add a note with start time, latitude and longitude with your AudioMoth and MicroSD card when you mail back to us, and include your mailing address so we can mail you a new AudioMoth. This will allow us to manually tag the time on your collected data and also ensure that you have an AudioMoth that you can use for the next 2024 eclipse.

Hi, The meaning of the red and green LED flashing together depends on the switch position. In DEFAULT it means an SD card write error. In CUSTOM it either means an SD card write errror or that there are no recording periods scheduled. You don't need to set the time to record in DEFAULT mode, so switch to DEFAULT and check whether it makes a recording correctly. If you get the red and green LED flashes in this mode, then there is likely a problem with the SD card. Check that it is not full, and it is formated as FAT32 or exFAT. Alex

How do you check to see it is making a recording? The SD card came with the unit. PS I'm not that tech savvy! Just want to recoed eclipse data.

Hi,

If you switch to DEFAULT the red LED should flash showing that it is making a recording. If the red and green LED flash together in DEFAULT then there is a problem with the SD card. Switch back to USB/OFF and it will stop recording. If you switch to CUSTOM without setting the time, the AudioMoth should show a constant red LED and flashing green LED. This is the AudioMoth waiting for the acoustic chime from the smartphone app. Once you play the tone, it should start to make scheduled recordings show a flashing red LED whilst recording, and a flashing green LED in the intervals between recordings.

If you switch to CUSTOM and get a flashing red and green LED together, it means that the AudioMoth has been configured with no recording schedule. If this is the case, contact the ES team who provided the AudioMoth and they will be able to tell you how to configure the device for the survey.
