Hi,
My audio moth is flashing red for the time set for recording and then flashes green when sleeping but once it's flashed green and it goes back to red, the red is solid for a second before continuing to flash faster. Does this pause in the red mean anything? Or it is still recording?
Thanks,
Eve
Hi, It is still recording okay. During the recording it should flash red at a consistent rate. A couple of seconds before the requested recording time, the AudioMoth will open the necessary file, and then wait for the precise recording time (to the closest millisecond) to actually start writing the file. This is what you are seeing. The 'less than a second' red flash is the file opening. Then the recording actually starts. Since the time required to open a file changes over time as the file allocation table on the SD card fills up, AudioMoth measures this time and adjusts the initial preparation time accordingly. If you have many thousands of files on the SD card it can take up to five seconds to open the file, and this begins to cause problems if the sleep period requested is less than five seconds. AudioMoth will work around this and adjust the recording length to ensure that the recordings all end of time, and have the correct time stamp, even if the start time was delayed. You can avoid these delayed start by using the 'Use daily folder for generated WAV file' option in the config app. This writes files to separate folders on each day and prevents the file opening time increasing over the course of a deployment.
